What is AFRIDO?

The saying goes: Together we are strong. AFRIDO is the short form of "Africans in Dortmund". AFRIDO is a platform for African Diaspora organizations and churches resident in Dortmund to meet and exchange ideas. Our colourful continent has about 54 countries with heterogeneous cultures. Although we come from different nations, we have common interests as residents of Dortmund. That's why it is very important that we work with each other instead of working against each other, in order to master the future challenges that lies ahead. All of us want our children to have a better future. We aim to achieve better living conditions and to be accepted as citizens of Dortmund. In order for us to realize these goals, we must work together, find the best solutions and implement them. Change does not come easy. We all have to invest time and we all have to be patient in order to achieve sustainable change for the future generation.

The objectives of AFRIDO are:

Promote educational and integration projects

Private lessons for students
German language courses for adults
Seminars and workshops for all age groups
Mentoring for families in need

Campaigning to improve self-confidence for our community
Consulting and offering support in official matters and daily problems, e.g. jobs, training and education
Promote active participation in political and social issues
Monthly meetings of the community leaders to exchange ideas, analyze and evaluate the community projects
Regular cross-cultural events bringing African and German families and citizens of Dortmund together

A friendly and warm relationship between members of the African diaspora is very important to overcome isolation. AFRIDO is for you, independent of your nationality and religion. Our main goal is to support each and every African in Dortmund. We support the political, social and economical integration of the African community.
